Oliver Campion

Oliver Campion (1928–2000) was a British painter of interiors, landscapes, still lifes and portraits. His work is rooted in observation, with an understated, economical approach to colour and composition. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art.

Campion was particularly drawn to domestic interiors and quiet landscapes, often finding his subjects in the ordinary and familiar. His paintings combine a strong sense of structure with restrained handling, giving even modest subjects a distinctive presence. His work also encompassed portraiture, including commissioned portraits of public figures.

Campion exhibited regularly at the New Grafton Gallery in London, one of the principal galleries associated with figurative British painting in the later twentieth century. Solo exhibitions there included shows in 1975, 1987, 1988 and 1998.

His work is held in public collections including UCL Art Museum and the Staffordshire County Buildings Picture Collection.
